We’re up to issue five of Noble Head Funnies, the Edward Bolman/J.P. Noel minicomic series that serves as the foundation of the Phoenix Masters Noble Head Funnies collected edition (plus some more!).
When I looked through the issue, trying to figure out what to share, one particular page hit me. It was this one:
Such classic Bolman. Gentle, subtle…surreal…funny. And Edward specifically asked me to make this the comic that went on the back cover of the compilation. Of course I had to share it!
But Noble Head Funnies #5 just overflows with creativity and artistic range. So let’s take a look at a couple more pieces from that issue:
This is a piece unlike most anything else in the entire book. The loose lines…the solid blacks…Bolman has so much to his work. Wow.
And how about this one?
Talk about a fun pride parade! A little more traditional in the Bolman cartooning, but applied to a more topical matter.
Doesn’t matter if his cartooning is grounded in the real world or riding off into the sunset on a giant terrapin, Noble Head Funnies represents some of the great surreal cartooning of the day. Grab your copy today!
