The rule of thumb on these #HumpdayHutchinson posts is to show off a Joe Hutchinson story…and that’s wise, as Joe’s stuff is awesome…but I thought I’d mix it up and share some of older brother Daryl Hutchinson’s ridiculously impressive artwork.
Lordy lordy, look at that detail. The linework, the pointillism…whoo boy.
If you want your own copies of Daryl’s work, he put a fair bit into Meet the Hutchinsons, our “sampler” zine for those who are Hutchinson-curious. Print and PDF editions available here.
There’s a reason why Daryl was voted one of the “Favorite Illustrators” in the 1986 Collier Awards for Small Press in Small Press Comics Explosion.

And here’s the cool part: Now retired, Daryl has time to put into his artwork! Not only is he doing the lion’s share of the graphic design and layout on Joe’s Comix (of which a second volume is in the works…), he also picked up some work illustrating the works of H.P. Lovecraft, his true passion.
Did you know you can follow the Hutchinsons on Facebook?
And don’t forget, Daryl remastered every Joe Hutchinson story we could find related to animals and packed them into a single volume — Joe’s Comix: WILD KINGDOM! 124 pages, colored for the first time in a glorious full magazine-size package. It’s wonderful. A true Phoenix Masters project, to be sure.
