FANzine Live: Week of May 25-31

Back from the family vacation week, and struggling mightily to catch up. Driving 600 miles in a single day isn’t the same at 53 that it was at 23. (Ugh.)

First, John Muller and my “Run For Your Life!” story is going to run in Planet Comics #30, which is available for pre-order. Looks like a late August release.

Pre-order it with Diamond code JUN241363 from your local comic shop, order through Previews Pullbox here, or get it from DCBS for a modest discount here.

With the week away from home, my completed/scheduled videos remain finished through June 24th. What that means to you is that I will have regularly scheduled New Releases, Classic Zines and Phoenix Spotlights for the foreseeable future regardless of what the summer throws at me. What it also means is that any newly released zine received today isn’t going to get a video spotlight until…July?

I hope to get a lot of recording done in the next couple of weeks. Just saying.

If you have a forthcoming zine and would like a review, please let me know as soon as possible so I can hold a calendar slot for you!

Did you know that I have a real simple 3x/week schedule for FANzine Live videos? Whaddya know, there’s a video for that!

As to the week at FANzine Live…

The Phoenix Spotlight shone on Hologram #4, as Joe’s personal life continues its tumble in its own inimitable way.

For New Releases, we took a look at James Banderas-Smith’s Papa Balloon and Cactus #4. I won’t lie; I bought it for the Teri S. Wood “Wandering Star” story. I left impressed with most everything in the zine. Apparently a lot of you were, too, as it’s the most viewed video on the channel by an order of magnitude. Congratulations, James….you’re bigger than Wallace Wood!

Finally, Classic Zines video focused on Chas Muller and Shawn Van Briesen’s Yipes! #1. Every zine tells a story, but the story behind this is a little larger as I was able to look into what happened to Chas and Shawn down the road. Shawn was kind enough to add a little extra in the video comments as well.

Another week in the books! I’m still hoping to write, perhaps to draw or start putting another zine together. Oh yeah, plus I still need to get ahead on videos in advance of my extended July absence.

Until next week…
