SCHOOL’S OUT! Can our intrepid cottage industry self-publishing hobbyist keep up the pace that the world is used to while running the Dad Taxi and shuttling kids everywhere and shipping the family out on vacation? Keep tuning in to find out!
Seriously, I’ve been preparing for summer. I know it’s going to be crazy, so I’ve started banking FANzine Live videos. I record ’em, edit ’em and schedule ’em on YouTube as well as on Facebook and Instagram. I can easily do three videos in a day, even more with a little effort.
Right now, I have videos posted through June 24th. What that means to you is that I will have regularly scheduled New Releases, Classic Zines and Phoenix Spotlights for the foreseeable future regardless of what the summer throws at me. What it also means is that any newly released zine received today isn’t going to get a video spotlight until…July?
If you have a forthcoming zine and would like a review, please let me know as soon as possible so I can hold a calendar slot for you!
As to the week at FANzine Live…
The Phoenix Spotlight took a look at Strange Times #1, the premiere issue of Phoenix Productions’ “anything goes” anthology that has turned into quite a nifty title in its own right. I will always look affectionately on this collaboration with Alan Groening. He’s such a great guy…and what talent!!
In the New Releases corner, I shuffled things around to get a fast turnaround look at Joe Ely Carrales’ The Improbable Girl and the Wonder Kitty #10. Joe’s hit his stride with these recent issues, but I also keep seeing steady technical improvement.
And last but never least, the Classic Zines video focused on Synapse Comics’ The Helgramites #1 by my old Partner in Comics, Matt Kanaracus, and a few of his buds. As a small press hero comic, it holds up well. Plus it was a pleasant stroll down memory lane for yours truly.
And that’s it for the week! I hope to get a script on its way now that I have the week’s videos recorded…but the family leaves for a week on Friday. Ack! So much to do!
Until next week…
