The beats keep rolling with reviews of The Collected Cranium Frenzy by Steve Willis Reader in Tetragrammaton Fragments 282 and 283 — the official newsletter of the United Fanzine Organization!
Issue 282 had quite a few comments…
Rob Imes
(UFO Chairman – Ditkomania, Cap Fan)

John Muller
(Tool Tips, Uncanny Action)

Steve Keeter
(Chairman Emeritus – Mantra, OM)

Ken Bailey
(The Mighty EnergyGirl)

Larry Johnson
(Zooy, Tales of the Broken B, Dream Diary)

And then 283 had another!
David Kling
(The Triumvirate)

While David and I are (more or less) zine contemporaries, it’s worth noting that we didn’t all run in the same creative circles. Then, there are folks like Ken Bailey, who predates my comics fandom yet wasn’t familiar with the Newave movement. Or perhaps Larry Johnson, who acknowledges that he and Willis simply took different paths in their cartooning. Actually, this divergence is a major reason why I’m doing this Phoenix Masters project in the first place! There’s a ton of great work circulating, and nobody truly has a handle on everyone and their work.
So it was all the more gratifying to see that they all gave The Collected Cranium Frenzy by Steve Willis a shot. As they saw, Steve’s work is really, really good. Better yet, they chose to share their experiences in their reviews!
You may very well like the Reader, too. Why don’t you grab a copy for yourself right here?
