A little U.F.O. love for FANzine Three: Street Art!

Brand new United Fanzine Organization member Len Mihalovich was kind enough to offer some thoughts on FANzine Three: Street Art in the 283rd issue of Tetragrammaton Fragments, the UFO newsletter.

A couple things:

First, the cat’s out of the bag. I find that the camaraderie and shared love of comics/zines in the UFO is so strong that it only makes sense for me to share my entire current library of UFO-labeled material with new members as they come on board. I know that these folks are excited to be a part of the group and are committed to the craft of making great comics and zines. It’s a no-brainer to get them off on the right foot with a gift of zine-making goodwill!

(If you’re interested in joining the UFO – hopefully for more reasons than getting my zines for free – chat with Chairman Rob Imes at robimes@yahoo.com.)

The other point I’d like to touch on is one that Len hit square on the head: Art is everywhere…and often in the most unexpected places! One of the joys of the smartphone era is that phone-wielders have a pretty darned good camera on hand to snap photos on a moment’s notice. That allows for collections like that of FANzine Three: Street Art. In most instances, I had no idea that the graffiti and street art was so amazing before I saw it. In many instances, I just snapped the photo quickly and moved along to our hotel, our walking tour, whatever. It’s when I got home and pored over the collection of images that I realized what a wonderful (and somewhat cohesive) trove was on my hands. So why NOT make a zine out of it to share with the world?
