Something in the Water #5 is live!

In a bit of a surprise, here’s the fifth issue of my little minicomic series. As always, it’s free to read digitally on Instagram.

I wasn’t planning to work on this series this week, but it’s funny how things happen. I’ve been preparing my body for a trip to Europe that starts tomorrow, and that means adjusting to a clock that is six hours ahead of mine here at home. I gather that the human body can adjust to an hour change in the body clock each day, so I’ve (more or less) awaken an hour earlier every day for the last week or so.

The unanticipated benefit of waking up at 5:30…then 4:30…then 3:30…then 2:00…is that I’m finding myself with a whole lot of solo time, time where I can concentrate and get stuff done. I’ve recorded a few FANzine Live videos (hopefully not too groggy…), organized portions of my comic and zine collections…and still had more than enough time to work up this 8-page minicomic. Who knew?

Anyway, the story is a bit of a transition. We’re ending the day for the most part, and everyone goes home. What happens there…well, you’ll need to read for yourself.

I left out the page of ruthless artistic self-criticism in exchange for an extra page of story. That’s not to say that I’m happy with the art. I don’t practice enough, am not consistent enough, make sloppy mistakes. However, I think some progress is being made in shading this time around, and a couple of the figures look better.

And yes, the cover is a Midjourney AI rendition of Meg like issue four’s Faduma cover. I’m not sure the subject choice was the best considering the interior story, but I like the image and will be using it as a drawing guide going forward.

Enjoy! Let me know what you think if the mood strikes.

TINY UPDATE: I was able to embed the Instagram posts into the Something in the Water Library page. No more linking back in forth (when Instagram plays along…)!
