Oh my! I’m falling behind on the summaries!
The Phoenix Spotlight took a look at Hologram #3, and I introduced the key plot threads of the story arc.
That was a Saturday, and I had a bit of time on Sunday to sharpen up some promotional videos for Phoenix zines. Here they are:
More surely will follow, but these three are good for now. I’m putting them in with the FANzine Live videos (with different audio effects as I toy around with that part), so viewers will have an idea of what’s out there in Phoenix-land.
For the New Releases video, I looked over Dale Martin’s Watusi the Talking Dog #42. 42!! Amazing. And the zine is so charming.
Finally, the Classic Zines video was an interesting one as it was purchased new at a bookstore…but was in its 6th printing. Does that make it a classic zine? I don’t know, but it’s a fantastic DIY guide for zine makers.
In other comics news, I’m slowly pulling Heroes Now #5 together. Still waiting on the lead story to be finished, as well as the cover, but Tony Lorenz delivered the 16-page backup story — a Patriots interlude, if you will. The Hero Gallery is set for a couple issues, so that’s not a problem. And we have a pinup from Scott McClung as well!
I’m also working on an unconventional crossover story for Heroes Now #6, also to be illustrated by Tony Lorenz. The concept has been out there for a while, but now it’s a matter of fleshing it out and making a short story out of it.
Summer break is two days away, and life is gonna get crazy and unpredictable really soon. I’ll be on a plane tomorrow chaperoning my youngest at the National Geography Bee and National History Bee, so that’s my Memorial Day weekend. Then a family vacation to the beach, Scout camps, and a really big trip to Europe with my eldest. This actually impacts my FANzine Live videos as I need to “bank” as many as I can to get to the end of July and avoid any lapses in presentation while I’m away from the studio. Right now, I’m up to June 17th. My goal is to be finished with videos spanning July 30th by the end of the first week of July. Gonna be tight.
Finally, I’m running really low on New Releases. I’ve been compensating by looking over crowdfunded comics and zines, but I’d love to include more traditional “small press” comics and zines. I can ride my Phoenix books into the Fall, no issue; my bookcase filled with Classic Zines are not a problem, either. It’s those New Releases! If you have a New Release and want me to shine the spotlight on it, please let me know!
