Quick FANZine Live update

[Slightly edited from a social media post from earlier today]

Thanks to everyone for the positive response to the Welcome video.

I’m going to be learning as I go, so please bear with me as hiccups are sure to occur. Already, I’m mulling over ways to improve different technical aspects. For a DIY rig on a shoestring budget, though, I think the product is decent.

Like, follow, subscribe…you know the drill.

One immediate change is to skip QR codes for links to zines and instead put actual links in the YouTube video descriptions. It’s easier for me and simpler for the viewers. Bonus!

The video content will improve as I get more comfortable presenting and commenting on the zines. I can see why Rugg and Piskor at Cartoonist Kayfabe take a half hour to just chat together before diving into their videos! Takes some time to loosen up the tongue, to get the brain working in that mode.

With the intro video out of the way, the initial weekly video lineup will be:

  • Phoenix Productions Spotlight at 10AM EDT on Saturdays (apparently a lighter day for YouTube traffic…apparently people like “sunshine” and “screen-free time”)
  • New Releases at noon EDT on Mondays (the highest traffic day…why aren’t you working?)
  • Classic Zines at noon EDT on Thursdays (because I had to pick a day between Monday and Saturday)

I already have six videos, or two weeks’ worth, in the queue. I’m learning that the videos range from just over 3 minutes to 15 and a half minutes. Slowly figuring this “brevity” thing out, I tell ya!

I will be out of town on a Spring Break trip with my eldest for most of next week, but those videos in the queue mean the fun won’t stop while I’m away from the desk. Everything will be on autopilot, though; please make a point of “Subscribing” to the YouTube channel as I’m not sure I will be able to post links while I’m travelling. If you subscribe, you’ll get notified when the new videos drop.

And, if you like what you see, please “like” the videos and tell your friends! I have no plans to put this stuff behind any paywalls; I just wanted to share my love for the small press/zine/self-publishing medium with the world. Let’s continue to grow our community of small press comic/zine publishers and enthusiasts!
