Heroic: Heroes Past was circulated to members of the United Fanzine Organization co-op as part of my obligation as a member to share my books and review/comment on those sent to me. A few of the members were kind enough to offer their thoughts on the book in Tetragrammaton Fragments, the UFO’s bimonthly newsletter.
Verl Holt Bond, publisher of Defenders of Mars and contributor to other small press publications, had this to say:
HEROIC: HEROES PAST By Tom Fellrath & Others Tom's Heroic: Heroes Past, just arrived in my mailbox a couple of days ago. First of all, the production values are superb for this graphic novel quality publication. The layout of the entire book is excellent. This book is obviously a labor of love on Tom's part and it shows. I won't critique every story so as to prevent and spoilers for potential readers. Suffice it to say that Tom was a creative and prolific writer of superhero comic book tales. It's amazing to me also that Tom preserved all these stories and kept the art in such good condition over a great many years. BRAVO TOM!!!
How kind of you, Verl! I’m glad you enjoyed Heroic: Heroes Past.
But I must admit that while I have copies of the titles reprinted in the book, I was even more fortunate that Scott McClung, David Tryzenski and especially Matt Kanaracus kept THEIR originals for over 30 years! All three gentlemen sent me clean copies/scans of original art and made the book that much better. It truly was a labor of love, but not by just me.
More reviews in the days ahead!
